Welcome…

We are looking forward to working with your child this year and helping him to achieve his full potential.  I hope this letter will help you to know what to expect this year and answer any of your questions you may have.

PE…

Tennis shoes are required for all students in PE.  Your child may bring an extra pair of shoes in his backpack everyday or he may leave them at school.  If your child is changing shoes please make sure that the shoes are untied and ready for your child to put on.  It is a good idea to send a full water bottle to school with your child’s name on it.  We do not have time to write names on water bottles at school.  These will go home daily for you to wash and refill.

Breakfast and Lunch…

Breakfast will be served daily for students starting at 7:30.  The cost for breakfast is $1.50 and the reduced price is 30 cents.  We will eat lunch from 10:45 to 11:20.  The cost of lunch will be $2.50 and the reduced price is 40 cents.  If you believe you are eligible for free or reduced meals, please fill out the paperwork that is being sent home.

Visitation Procedures…

If you are visiting the classroom or wish to eat lunch with your child you will need to stop at the office to sign in.

Birthdays

Yes, we will celebrate your child’s birthday in class.  Please contact me a day or two in advance, so I can make plans.  Please keep birthday treats limited to cookies, cupcakes or brownies and juice boxes.  The treats will be served around 3:00.

Arrival and Departure…

School begins at 8:00 a.m. and dismisses at 3:25 p.m.

Breakfast is served in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30. The children will either eat breakfast or wait in the cafeteria until 7:45.  At 7:45. the students will be allowed to enter the elementary building.  If you drop your child off before 7:45 they MUST go to the cafeteria.  Car riders can be picked up in front of the building.  Please stay in your vehicle, we will gladly put your child in the car and you never have to get out!

Changes in Transportation…

Any changes made to your child’s usual method of transportation (different bus, car instead of bus, going home with a friend, etc…) must be in the form of a written note signed by the parent.  Don’t rely on your child to tell me the information, because children often become confused and relay messages incorrectly.  If a note is not received, your child will be sent home by his usual method of transportation.

Book Orders…

Book orders will be going home once a month.  If you wish to order, simply fill out the form and send the correct amount of money or a check made out to Scholastic in an envelope.  You may also order online and pay using your debit or credit card.

Money…

On occasion it is necessary for your child to bring money to school.  Always send money in a sealed envelope or a zip-loc-bag with the following information written on it:

· Your child’s name

· The amount of money

· The purpose of the money

· Teacher’s name

Snacks…

We will be having an afternoon snack this year.  A calendar will go home on the first day of school that will tell you what day your child needs to bring snacks and will give some suggestions for snacks.

Parent/Teacher Relationship…

We believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.  Throughout the year we will communicate with you through notes, telephone call, monthly calendars, report cards, and conferences.  We encourage you to see us if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  The phone number at school is 936-396-9999.  Our conference time is 12:05 until 12:50.  Our emails are spickering@normageeisd.org

and btrochez@normangeeisd.org.

Ways to Help…

Lots of help and encouragement from you will help your child blossom into a wonderful reader and writer.  Staying involved in your child’s education is the key to success.  Engage your child in conservation about his day, but know that children won’t always give out information.  Look at their work and ask them to tell you about it!

PTO….

Please consider joining PTO.  It is a perfect way to volunteer and help out our school.  Bonus- You will meet lots of other parents.

The End…

In closing, we would just like to say that we are looking forward to a great year working with your child.  Thank you in advance for your concern and support throughout the year!
