Internet Safety

Introduction

The Internet allows our students the ability to access a vast amount of information and resources online.  Much of the information and resources available via the Internet has positive educational value, but definitely not all. Normangee ISD has special software and hardware in place that will restrict access to undesirable adult material and topics.

It is not possible, however, to completely block all objectionable sites. As parents and teachers, we must teach students to be responsible consumers of information and responsible users of the district's technology equipment. The resources in this section will help you maximize the benefits of the Internet and related technologies for your child's education and minimize the risks that your child could encounter online.

  • The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is legislation that was passed by Congress in 2001. It defines harmful and inappropriate use of Internet resources by students and provides minimum guidelines for schools to follow in protecting students while they are online.  For additional information, visit the FCC Website for the Children's Internet Protection Act

  • The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is legislation that was passed by Congress in 1998.  It imposes certain requirements on operators of websites or online services directed at children under 13 years of age, and on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age.  For additional information, visit the  FTC Website for the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

  • One of the most common items we are asked by parents and the community is what resources are available that they can use to learn more about Internet Safety and help our students be safe online.

Normangee is proud to share the following Internet Safety resources with all of our stakeholders.
