Normangee Core Values

With the continued success of Normangee ISD and the amazing community of Normangee, the district is seeing steady growth. Since 2015 our enrollment has grown from 527 to last year ending the year at 611 students. NISD has continued to be successful in so many areas from academics, to athletics, to other extra-curricular activities. It’s truly a wonderful time to be a Panther.

The success of the voter-approved bond in 2016, which raised the tax rate to $1.46, and the major facility improvements that have been made have had an incredible impact on our entire community. As we host games, activities, and events, we are always hearing compliments from our visitors on the front of our facility and on the improvements that have been made. Though the construction drastically improved the front of our facility, several other areas of our facility continue to have extensive challenges and limitations. For example, the current ag facility has limited space and has restricted our ability to provide high-level career and technology experiences for our students.

As the Normangee Star reported previously, the district also has extensive drainage challenges. While the staff has risen to the challenge and worked diligently to have the buildings ready for the school year, keeping water out in the future remains a concern.

On Monday, August 9, 2021, the Normangee ISD School Board voted to seek voter approval for a $20-million-dollar bond issue that will be used to finance the Long Range Facility Plan of the district. This plan was developed by our Facilities Committee that is made up of community members, teachers, and staff.  It is intended to serve the current and potential future needs of our district.

Since the District has prioritized our stakeholders, over the last 3 years the tax rate has been reduced from $1.46 to $1.34. The district’s financial advisor has determined there would be a $0.10 increase to the tax rate to finance the new bonds. The combined tax rate would be $1.44, which is $0.02 lower than the rate approved by the voters for the 2016 bond.

The 2021 Bond Project would be divided into 2 phases. Projects in the first phase represent immediate needs. Phase 2 of the Bond Project would commence if student enrollment and district growth trends continue.

Phase 1 (To be completed first)

  • Complete renovation and expansion of the ag shop and classrooms

  • Addition of 7 classrooms located in a classroom connector between the junior high, high school, and band hall

  • Construction of a new greenhouse

  • Renovation to the Red Brick Building to allow dedicated floral design lab and additional classroom space

  • Kitchen and cafeteria renovations, making it more efficient and accessible to all students

  • A new elementary playground that is inclusive for students of all abilities

  • Renovations to the old gymnasium

  • Construction of a new weight room

  • Address drainage issues across the district’s facilities

  • Concrete and paving improvements

Phase 2 (If needed and as growth determines)

  • Provide additional classroom space

  • Cafeteria expansion to increase capacity

Normangee ISD residents will have the opportunity to vote on the bond referendum beginning with early voting October 18 – October 29, 2021, and on Election Day, which is November 2, 2021.
