Exciting News.... Normangee ISD will offer a free online tutoring resource to our students and parents this school year called Paper. This resource will allow students to chat online with a tutor that can help them with any subject, at any time. Our teachers just finished training on this resource and parents will be given more information very soon. Please be on the lookout for more information about Paper and how this resource can help your student.

This week August 29 2022
Reminder: School Nutrition Services utilizes a computerized meal accounting system to track all meals and purchases. Students access this system when they scan their student ID at the bar code reader located on the serving line and snack bar. Students will be issued one free ID badge each year. No student will be denied a breakfast or lunch because they don’t have an ID. However, all Junior High and High School students are required to have their school-issued identification badge with them during the instructional day. The use of a student ID allows for NISD to be “touch free”. It also allows students to move efficiently through lines giving them more time to enjoy lunch. A fee of $5.00 will be charged to the student for replacement of a lost, damaged, or defaced ID badge. Snack Bar is a privilege and students who do not have their ID will not be allowed to purchase from the snack bar.

Hey Panther Band! If you haven't heard, there is a new band director in town. A little about me, I'm a student of Fred Junkin from Victoria, Texas (Jerry's Dad - Director of Bands at UT Austin), Eddie Green (former director of the University of Houston) and 4 time DCI Snare line member ('84 Houston Nighthawks, '85 Sky Ryders from Kansas, and '87-'88 Troopers from Casper, Wyoming). I was a concerto competition finalist at the first Texas Music Festival in Houston. I'm so blessed I married my High School sweetheart and we have two sons. Both were band members and baseball players. One is now a financial analyst and the other a chemical engineer and both are graduates with honors from Texas A&M. I taught band for 29 years in Cy-Fair ISD and retired after 2018. I've been judging bands (member of TMAA for both Marching Bands and Concert Bands), doing clinics helping other band directors with their bands and also umpiring baseball. I am a member of TASO and umpired two rounds of play-offs this year. I have property in the Normangee area and out of the blue a few weeks ago I happened to look at the school website and saw there was a band director needed. I thought about it a lot and honestly have thought about little else since. I sent my resume, talked with some great folks and here we are. I could not be more excited about teaching in Normangee. Although I spent my career in the 6A world, the lessons are the same at any level. My job is to help young people learn the correlation between hard work and success. If it were easy then it wouldn't be as fun when excellence is achieved. I love music, I love working with kids, I love working together with parents to create an environment for all to be proud of. This all happened really fast but I truly feel this opportunity was meant to happen and am absolutely thrilled. I would like nothing more than to start rehearsing and working together now but i also realize many schedules have been made with family time and that is important. Mr. Davis and I will look at the schedule and see if there is some time we can get together and begin the building process before school starts. It would be awesome if we could start RIGHT NOW, and if you could see the smile on my face you would know I mean it. I'll be glad to get started whenever that day is able to happen and will absolutely give you my best each and every day. Somebody may be smarter than me or more talented than me but my goal is to never have anyone work harder than me. This was supposed to be a short note but "short" is up to interpretation I guess, I have a lot more to give and can't wait to start. Sincerely, Russell Holcombe Proud Director of the Normangee Panther Band Let's GOOOOO!
